Email template to request pest control quotes

You have ants in the kitchen, mice in the garage, or something you have not identified yet, and you want it handled by a professional. Pest control pricing is confusing because companies sell it two ways: a one-time treatment, or a recurring plan where they come back every month or quarter for a fee. Calling around gets you a friendly voice and a vague range. Emailing gets you a written number tied to a specific treatment, which you can put next to two other companies' numbers. It also lets you describe the problem once, in your own words, with photos attached, instead of repeating it to every receptionist.

Before you send

  • What you have seen and where: the pest (or your best guess), which rooms, how long it has been going on, and whether you have seen droppings, nests, or damage. A photo or two helps.
  • Your home type and rough size: house or apartment, square footage, whether there is a crawl space, basement, or attic.
  • Whether you want a one-time treatment or are open to a recurring plan. Say so up front, or the quote will default to the plan.
  • Anyone in the home a company should know about: pets, small children, or someone with chemical sensitivities.
  • The names of two or three licensed companies in your area, so you can send the same email to all of them.

Could you send me:

- The price for a one-time treatment, and what that treatment includes
- If you offer it, the price and terms of a recurring plan, including how often you come and how I cancel
- Whether an inspection is required first and whether it costs anything
- Which products you would use, since we have [pets / young children / no special concerns]

I'd like to get this taken care of within [timeframe, e.g. the next week], so if you can also share your next available date, that would help me decide.

Everything in brackets is yours to fill in. Keep the rest as it is or change the tone to match how you write.

After you send

  • Most companies reply within a day. Some will only quote after an in-person inspection; that is normal for rodents and termites, less so for ants or roaches. Ask if the inspection is free.
  • Compare the treatment, not just the price. A cheap one-time spray that does not include follow-up visits can cost more than a plan once the pests come back.
  • If a quote leans hard on a recurring plan, ask for the one-time number in writing anyway. You can always upgrade later.
  • Walk away from any company that will not tell you what products they use or that pressures you to sign the same day.
