Email template to request a retirement home tour and pricing
You are looking at retirement communities for yourself or a parent and want to visit and get real numbers. "Retirement home" covers several things: independent living (an apartment with meals and activities, no personal care), assisted living (help with daily tasks like bathing and medications), and memory care (a secured setting for dementia). Prices are almost never on the website, and the base rate leaves out care-level charges, a community fee paid once at move-in, and yearly increases. Asking by email before the tour means you arrive knowing the cost, so the visit is about the place itself rather than a sales conversation.
Before you send
- The level of care needed now, and what may be needed in a year or two. Communities price by care level, so this drives the number.
- The kind of unit you want: studio, one-bedroom, shared. And whether a pet is coming along.
- Your realistic monthly budget and how it will be paid: savings, sale of a home, long-term care insurance, or a veterans' benefit. Some communities accept Medicaid after a period of private pay; ask.
- A few dates and times you can tour, and who will come with you.
- The names of two or three other communities, so you can compare.
Hi [community name] team, I'm looking at [independent living / assisted living / memory care] for [myself / my mother / my father], who is [age] and currently [lives alone in a house / lives with family / other]. [He / She / I] need[s] [no daily help right now / help with medications and bathing / other], and we expect that to [stay the same / increase over time]. I'd like to schedule a tour. I'm available [dates and times], and [names] would join me. Before we visit, could you send pricing in writing? - Monthly rent for a [studio / one-bedroom] and what it includes (meals, housekeeping, utilities, transportation) - How care is charged: by level, by points, or by the hour, and what each level costs - The one-time community or move-in fee, and whether any part is refundable - The average rate increase over the past three years - Any current openings or waitlist Our budget is about [amount] per month. Thanks for your help. [Your name] [Your phone number]
Everything in brackets is yours to fill in. Keep the rest as it is or change the tone to match how you write.
After you send
- Expect a call from a sales counselor within a day. Ask them to send the pricing by email anyway; a written rate sheet is what you'll compare against other communities.
- Add it up: base rent plus the likely care level plus the community fee spread over a year. That is the real monthly cost. If care-level pricing is vague, ask what a resident with your parent's needs is paying now.
- On the tour, eat a meal, visit at an unscheduled time if you can, and ask residents how long staff stay. Turnover tells you more than the lobby does.
- If the community will not share prices before a tour, that is a sales tactic; you can still visit, but note it.
Or don't send it yourself
Forward the job to myagent@standinfor.me and let StandIn run the whole thread.
StandIn is an email assistant that handles conversations with businesses for you. You write it one email saying what you need. It writes to the business, waits for the answer, follows up when they go quiet, pushes back on the number when it should, and brings the results back to your inbox for you to decide. You don't need to install an app or sign up. The first email you send is already the start of the task.

Hi StandIn, Please contact retirement communities for [me / my parent], get written pricing from each, and schedule tours. Who it's for: [age, current living situation, care needed now and expected later]. Type of community: [independent living / assisted living / memory care]. Location: [city or area, and how far we'd go]. Unit and extras: [studio / one-bedroom, pet, other must-haves]. Budget and payment: [monthly amount, how it will be paid]. Tour availability: [dates and times, who's coming]. Ask each community for rent, care charges, move-in fee, refund terms, and recent increases, then bring me a side-by-side comparison with tour times booked. Thanks, [Your name]
